Is it Time for a QuickBooks Upgrade to a Modern ERP?

QuickBooks Upgrade

Intuit's Decision to Discontinue QuickBooks Desktop Products - It's Time for a QuickBooks Upgrade to a Modern ERP

Intuit has announced that starting from July 31, 2024, it will stop selling new subscriptions for some of its popular desktop products: QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus, and QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus. This decision is part of Intuit's ongoing strategy to simplify its offerings and prompt users to migrate to its cloud-based solutions. We offer modern cloud-based and desktop solutions like Acumatica and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain (D365 F&O). We welcome you to contact us for a free evaluation.

Impact on QuickBooks Desktop 2021 Users

Many businesses and individuals prefer desktop versions of QuickBooks because of their robustness, reliability, and offline accessibility. Desktop versions have also been favored for their comprehensive feature sets and the level of control they offer users. Despite the growing trend towards cloud-based applications, many users continue using desktop versions.

The discontinuation of these products is expected to impact how users manage their finances significantly. Users must explore alternative options, such as transitioning to QuickBooks Online or exploring a modern ERP solution. The switch may be challenging, especially for those who have heavily integrated the desktop software into their business operations.

Discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop 2021

Furthermore, after May 31, 2024, Intuit will cease providing support for QuickBooks Desktop 2021. This will result in users losing access to critical services such as online banking, payroll processing, and real-time technical assistance. The discontinuation of these services can potentially cause significant disruptions to business operations, as users will no longer receive updates or have the option to seek customer support.

Reasons Behind the Decision

Intuit's move to phase out older versions and focus on cloud-based solutions is driven by several factors:

  1. Enhanced Features and Security: Cloud-based solutions offer more frequent updates, which means users can access the latest features and security enhancements without having to upgrade their software manually.

  2. Better Integration: QuickBooks Online integrates seamlessly with other cloud-based applications, providing a more cohesive and streamlined user experience.

  3. User Demand and Market Trends: There is a growing trend towards remote work and digital solutions, which cloud-based software can more effectively support.

  4. Operational Efficiency: Supporting fewer software versions allows Intuit to focus resources on improving and innovating its core offerings, ensuring it remains competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

Migrate to QuickBooks Online OR a MODERN ERP?

For users needing to transition from the desktop versions, QuickBooks Online offers several advantages:

  • Accessibility: Users can access their accounts from anywhere with an internet connection, making it easier to manage finances remotely.
  • Collaboration: Multiple users can work on the same account simultaneously, which benefits teams.
  • Automatic Backups: Data is automatically backed up, reducing the risk of data loss.
  • Integration: Easy integration with other business tools and apps enhances productivity and efficiency.

Eliminate Business Risks with the Cloud

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 users will need to acclimate to a fresh interface and potentially modify their workflows during the transition. Intuit offers resources and assistance to facilitate a seamless switch, including migration tools and dedicated customer support.

Why Upgrade Your QuickBooks Desktop 2021?

Intuit's decision to discontinue new subscriptions for QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, and Mac Plus and end support for QuickBooks Desktop 2021 marks a significant shift for many users. While this move aligns with industry trends and aims to improve user experience through cloud-based solutions, it also poses challenges for those accustomed to the desktop versions. Users must weigh the benefits of transitioning to QuickBooks Online against their current needs and preferences, ensuring a smooth transition to maintain their business operations.
